They made the most money on the high gas prices. So, they should be the ones who bailout GM.Should Bush/Cheney and the Oil companies bailout GM?
You know what....that's not a bad idea. Without cars, the oil companies would flounder. Why shouldn't they pitch in and help? It sure would be better that way than if our tax dollars has to pay for it. Should Bush/Cheney and the Oil companies bailout GM?
The American auto industry has been practicing self help on the way toward regaining long term sustainability. General Motors was in the midst of historic cost cutting when events of this year overwhelmed our entire economy. Since 2005, GM has reduced structural costs in North America by over $9 billion. The latest UAW contract, signed in the fall of 2007, should show savings of about $6 billion a year starting in 2010, by reducing legacy costs associated with pensions and retiree health care. Between 2000 and mid-2008 the salaried workforce was reduced from 44,000 to 32,000, and the hourly workforce from 132,000 to 64,000. Other savings methods were implemented including reducing salaried employment costs by 30%, eliminating raises and discretionary bonuses for executives and suspending 401k match for salaried employees. All of this was done while GM and Ford have virtually eliminated the perceived quality gap with Japanese carmakers.
Bush/Cheney are already pushing to give the big three the loans that were approved for developing fuel-efficient vehicles. That is merely stuffing our tax dollars down the auto industry rat hole to delay the inevitable.
I would certainly think OPEC would love to keep Hummers on the road.
Psssst..Oil companies net profit was 8%...Walmart's net profit 10%...why are you griping? Wanna do a windfall profit tax on Walmart. do you know how much Wite Out costs per gallon?
Lighten up and don't drink so much of the liberal Kool Aid
With the Big 3 U.S. Automakers circling the drain, here are 10 solutions to the current crisis and none of them involve sticking your head between your legs and kissing your rear goodbye.

It's not like it'd be their money. It'd be the taxpayers's money. No.
No! The dumbing down of America has reached epic proportions!
