Why can't the US government rescind some of the tax breaks to the Oil Companies,?

and use those funds to build some Refineries. There seems to be p[lenty of oil but not enough refining capacity. How many refineries could we build for the $120 billion dollars we will be spending in Iraq? Why can't the US government rescind some of the tax breaks to the Oil Companies,?
Alot, but it's a NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) issue.....No one wants a refinery near them.. ....Also, the government can, but it won't. All the politicians in Washington DC are bought and paid for by big oil lobbyists. And don't forget the President and VP both come from oil backgrounds. Also, you know why the oil companies are having trouble building oil refineries in the US? It's not money...It's all the red tape and regulations of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)...They say it takes 10-15 years from start to finish to build a refinery because of EPA.Why can't the US government rescind some of the tax breaks to the Oil Companies,?
The real question is, where could we build these refineries? All the special interest groups have for 30 years fought any effort to build any.
there's so much red tape involved in building an oil refinery, it's just cheaper to fix the old one. And anything that runs for 30 years is bound to break down. So you're gonna have to deal with the extra costs.
Because the oil companies are a good part of the present US Government and don't want to tax themselves by increasing their expenses.
