Should oil companies only be eligible for any government money if they use it all on switching to green energy

Would this help steer things in the right direction without harming the economy or costing any jobs? They could use some of it on job retraining to switch from oil jobs to green energy jobs and some on research, some on devolopment, some on advertising and the rest on producing green energy for new demand and to replace dirty energy production which would HAVE to be phased out in order to prevent the damage to the climate from the green house gases they would emit if they weren't replaced.Should oil companies only be eligible for any government money if they use it all on switching to green energy
You are talking about oil companies getting rid of oil and going to green energy, then we wouldn't have any oil companies. Oil is used in to many items. Without oil we would be without thousands of petroleum based products. All oil based products are going to have to be replaced sooner or later and the sooner we do it the cheaper our lifestyles will be to maintain when everything made from oil gets more and more expensive. Report Abuse

No. A Pigouvian tax whereby oil companies pay for creating externalities (ie: pollution) would be a more efficient means.
