If our oil usage is at all time highs, wouldn't it make sense that oil companies have record high profit?

The only way they make a profit is by selling their product. Keep in mind, oil is used for many other things other then just gas. All of these things usage has skyrocketed. Heck, plastic (made from oil) is now used to make cars. If our oil usage is at all time highs, wouldn't it make sense that oil companies have record high profit?
It seems more logical that if gasoline prices are at an all time high, they would be making record profits.

If supply and demand dictate price of a barrel of oil, then the price of a barrel of oil should not increase profits, since they can't sell as much if there isn't as much.If our oil usage is at all time highs, wouldn't it make sense that oil companies have record high profit?
I'm still trying to figure out how the oil companies are managing these record profits? With the price of crude being what it is. I'm a house-painter, if a gallon of paint used to cost me twenty five dollars a few years ago but now costs a hundred twenty five, how do I make record profits? I don't, and probably wouldn't be doing much painting to boot. The inside of a seventeen hundred square foot house, walls only, would cost over ten thousand dollars. I'm wondering how you think our usage is at an all time high especially with the price of gasoline being so high. I think once it went over two fifty a gallon it started to hurt a lot of people.

While we pay outrageous gas prices oil companies are posting record breaking profits in the BILLIONS. How many quarters in the past four years have been record breaking quarters, two or three every year? Upper management, say the top ten people, are probably pulling out hundreds of millions out of the company each and every year with salary, perks, bonus money, private jets, fine hotels, the best golf courses, stock options, insurance and health care, vacations etc.

First justify to me how oil went from twenty a barrel at the beginning of the Bush presidency and seven years later it's one twenty five. Secondly, justify to me the compensation of upper management while many in America are really suffering with these high gas prices.

Exxon-Mobil with this past quarters profits was making money at the rate of one thousand four hundred and eighty six dollars...a second.
that's just it... our usage has dropped as the price has gone up...

yet still... all time profit?

also, has the usage gone up enough in the past 2 years to excuse a jump of like 150 percent? I've not seen that kind of explosion...
They're making huge profits because the price for a barrel of oil has been as high as $147. The oil companies don't set the price. The price is set by the world market and depends on supply and demand.
For the U.S., it isn't currently at an all-time high, we have reduced to the usage of that in the 80's.
The price is also at an all time high.
Yes, it makes sense, damn it!

But I still have to piss and moan at someone when I drop $70.00 in my tank.
and condoms too! Why don't we attack the condom companies for making such large profits?
