What do oil companies do with dry holes?
I don't know about oil companies but I've found K-Y jelly very useful before I fill a dry hole. What do oil companies do with dry holes?
Mostly, the well are not fully dried but it is taken to the ';economic limit'; when it's no longer economic to pump.
In order to utilize the best of it sometimes they boost a heavy (more densed from oil) solution into the ground in order to rise the oil level and pump it more easily.
At the moment the well is no longer economic it is covered with cement to prevent oil from licking into drinking water. This stage is quit expensive by the way.
They don't fill them. They cap off the pipe and leave.
