Don't the Dems want alternative energy? Why don't the Dem's want to give incentives to US companies to do the necessary research? Why do oil companies deserve or need government subsidies (money from you and I) and/or tax breaks?
Because unabashed greed is insatiable. Why do oil companies deserve or need government subsidies (money from you and I) and/or tax breaks?
They don't need them. Unfortunately you have legislation being written by corporations and corporate welfare is what you end up with. If they are making record profits all tax breaks and government subsidies should be eliminated permanently.
I think it's the guage they use to see how much of a stranglehold they have on the economy.
They don't. They have the American economy by the short-and-curlies as it is. But with oilmen in the whitehouse, they still get em.
they don't that's why store brand bread is now 1.49 and it was 89 cents that's why some of us will have to make a chose heat or food or lights this is why bush must be impeached
The combined oil companies made huge profits during the last year, they should have all tax breaks removed %26amp; no more subsidies unless they agree to lower the prices back to a reasonable level %26amp; take less in profit! The government should tax them big time %26amp; repay the people who have paid for fuel in excess of what they should have had to pay!
Because we want gasoline at 3.75 a gallon not 5.25 a gallon...I don't know what people are thinking when they suggest ending such subsidies and taxing oil company profits; do they really think these companies are going cut prices after such impacts...OMG...they will raise the prices further.
They don't as far as I'm concerned. It would be foolish for Congress and the president to subsidize oil companies when they have record setting profits to offset additional expenses !
How about the farmers that get paid not to farm. How about the people that get paid not to work. How about the people with free apartments. How about the the people that have to pay and have no choice?
they don't, of course, but that's what Republicans do
They do not when Oil is over 100 a barrel. If it is less than 30 they may.
Great question Kelly!
I think the answer is a body in motion tends to stay in motion. For sure the oil industry with it's massive profits of late makes the idea of subsidies look ridiculous.
We need to decentralize energy. We have to stop chasing a diminishing resources and look to renewable energy. Unfortunately the big oil companies don't see it that way. They have done all they can to stop the transition without looking like they are blocking it. Take a look at the ethanol boondoggle. it takes more energy to produce a gallon of lower powered fuel, very bad. When the price of gasoline was 40 cents diesel was 20 cents, a 2 to 1 ratio. Now diesel cost more than premium! They are getting ready for the big inflow of diesel cars that Europe has had for some time. And when big oil looks to alternate energy look how they prioritize it. First Nuclear which means centralization. Then on down the list to Solar. Not many people or companies can build a nuclear plant, but every six pack Joe can make the sun work in his favor without the reoccurring payment to the big monopolies.

Corporate tax breaks afford companies more money for campaign contributions.
You know, I don't know why Global Alarmist complain. High Gas prices mean less usage for vehicles.
so what?....you would rather have cheap gas and high Carbon monoxide?
Something's got to give. Can't have it both ways.
They don't, I agree with you there. I do not agree they should be taxed more, but I do believe that the tax breaks and subsidies they enjoy should be taken away, which is in a way a tax increase in itself.
Because everybody knows that they only make several $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,0鈥?a day and no one can live on that so they ';NEED'; more money!
Because they're only making several billion dollars profit each year. A CEO's gotta eat mang! (sarcasm.. obviously they are the least deserving of subsides ever)
who said they need it...they take it because we don't stop them.
They don't. Bush did it all by himself (and with the senators he bribed and blackmailed through double agents and prostitutes).
