Why don't anyone make a hydrogen market and put greedy oil companies out of business?

It's true - while hydrogen is increasingly used as a fuel, unfortunately, we're still working on developing technologies that make production, transport and distribution more practical. Plus, hydrogen fuel may not be the best fuel for every application.

I'm optimistic about it, but it will take some significant R%26amp;D investment. The best souce of this would be government funding; however, those monies seem to be going toward subsidizing the very oil companies who are making billion-dollar quarterly profits.

So you've got a couple of options - find and support groups that advocate or research hydrogen fuel, and consider how your political decisions affect how and when it happens.Why don't anyone make a hydrogen market and put greedy oil companies out of business?
The greedy oil companies are very very RICH.

They are buying away (or using power) to stop the new companies that would arise.

There is already a solution - denat alchol (BRAZIL is using just that!!!!!)

This oil guys are rich enough to start a war in Iraq; do you think they will let small startups survive?Why don't anyone make a hydrogen market and put greedy oil companies out of business?
1. Hydrogen is expensive to produce. (It takes a LOT of energy to make it)

2. Hydrogen is DANGEROUS.

3. Since the Arabs make the vast majority of the profits when it comes to selling oil, don't you think that it is the Arabs who are truly ';greedy?';

By the way, if hyrdrogen was cheap to make, then utility companies and businesses would use it as a cheap source of energy instead of paying for oil, coal, and gas.

A little advice? Study hard in school.
Why not make a killing yourself?
becuz making hydrogen costs more energy than it produces. its expensive. its unstable.
We're not ready for hydrogen yet. The cost of production is too high. Also, because hydrogen is such a ';light'; gas, we haven't found a way to store large quantities in small spaces. You'd need to fill up every 50 miles instead of every 300.

As for it's actual energy yield, once produced it produces more HP than fossil fuels, but with our current technology we'd need to use fossil fuels to produce it. It takes a lot of energy to break H2O down to hydrogen and oxygen.

I think hydrogen fuel will defiantly be used in our near future as an alternative to fossil fuels. Of course it is clean burning (water and oxygen being the bi products) and in theory, inexhaustible. The Earth has a finite amount hydrogen that is neither lost nor gained, only changed in form (H2O to O2 and H and back again). It does not take more energy to produce than it yields (a common misconception) but the end product would not be affordable. Could anyone afford to pay $10 for a pound of hydrogen fuel? It's just a question of when the technology becomes affordable and efficient.

Qualified scientists are working on the road blocks as we speak. As soon as Exxon and the like feel they can profit from it's production we'll be on the road to a hydrogen based economy. 15 to 20 years would be a safe guess. Of course that's assuming we don't wipe ourselves out in the mean time.
cos there aint greedy hydrogen company

sides, hydrogen is so freakin %26lt;insert whatever%26gt;

its unstable

its nuclear

its you-name-it
oil companies have lobbyists in washington so the governemnt makes laws that make it harder for people who want to start a hydrogen buisness to do so.
BECAUSE GEORGE BUSH AND FAMILY ARE OIL BARONS....HA HA HA
its not more expensive.. its just the simple fact that.. car companies and energy companies are going to have to both take the risk of converting our society to a Hydrogen one at the same time.

because u need the fuel to run the cars, and u need the cars to buy the fuel

if you need more answers on this, let me know.. i've done a couple research papers on the topic...

and against popular belief, the Hindenburg did not explode due to hydrogen.. it was because the material and paint used on its outter shell with both highly flammable, and when static caused a spark, it exploded
If Ford Motor's competition meets them with cars of their own that run on ethanol, many greedy oil companies may be put out of business due to cleaner air and the lack of risk because of the hurricane season being a risk to oil companies.
